The Social Security Administration Has A New Acting Commissioner

Nancy A. Berryhill, replaced Carolyn W. Colvin, as the Acting Commissioner of the Social Security Administration (“SSA”) on January 23, 2017. She will oversee close to 64,000 employees and a 12 billion dollar budget. Ms. Berryhill has worked at SSA for 40 years. She previously served as the as the Deputy Commissioner for Operations at the agency.

Clearly Ms. Berryhill has worked at the agency long enough to see the positive aspects of the agency as well as its flaws. Hopefully, Ms. Berryhill will be able to implement some processes that reduce the ever-growing backlog that exists at the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review.

  1. Here come the status quo!! She will leads SSA when it is a federal agency that is overwhelmingly having a lot of irrelevant components, departments, and tax-wasting job positions, especially at its Headquarters in Baltimore and Regional Offices.

For example: The OCREO Offices, in-house EEOC version, would not assist but instead it has resorted to intimidation of Asian-American employees who filed complaints against the managers in and around the country led by the irresponsible and life-time Commissioners and their henchmen and women, many of whom have let it be known to be ardent anti Asian-Americans hypocrites.

Meanwhile, SSA-HR Departments through out would contradictory touting the overused HR term "Diversity" at SSA field offices.

Currently, the workplace environment at these local field offices is extremely hostile for less vocal minority ethnic groups of such and ironically, the AFGE Union Locals are looking the other way on many occasions when it comes to its Asian-American rank and file. Very Sad!! It make the hated term of "draining the swamp" becomes more logical and soon to be acceptable by some who otherwise woul not !!
