SSA Announces a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (“COLA”) for 2026
As we start to slowly meander into the holiday season and the inevitable end of the year, beneficiaries are starting to wonder if their benefits will increase for 2026. The answer is YES! The Social Security Administration has announced a 2.8 percent benefit increase for 2026. This cost-of-living adjustment (“COLA”) will begin on December 31, 2025 for Supplemental Security Income (“SSI”) beneficiaries. Social Security Disability Insurance (“SSDI”) and Social Security Retirement recipients will see the effects of the COLA in their January 2026 benefit payments. This COLA will affect the more than 75 million Americans who receive monthly Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefits.
Additionally, the maximum amount of earnings subject to Social Security tax will be increased from $176,100 to $184,500.
